Civil notes show his age as 45 at the birth of his son Jacques in 1681, making his birth year about 1636. His birthplace is now known as Arras, Pas-de-Calais, France. At the time of Antoine's birth however, that geographical area was known as the Spanish Netherlands and was reassigned to France in a subsequent treaty. An entry in "Origine des Families Canadiennes-Francaises" states that Antoine was from Bethune, a town located in what is now the former province of Artois. It is located about 45 miles southeast of Calais and 116 miles from Paris. It is very close to the border of Belgium, which can be seen from the top of a belfry in the modern town and has stood on the site since 1346.
