Ellis Leon "Chick" Vermette, 75, of Shady Side, died of a heart attack Jan. 28 at his home.
Born in Dorset, Vt., on April 26, 1929, Mr. Vermette graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vt. He was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and a decorated Korean War veteran who served from 1946 to 1952.
He was a manager of Mackie Corp. in Cheverly and a customer service representative at Sam's Club in Annapolis.
Mr. Vermette was an emergency medical technician and treasurer of the 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad for 20 years and a volunteer fireman for the Avalon Shores Fire Department, Company 41. He also was a coach for the Shady Side Majorette and Drum Corps.
On May 7, 1956, he married Irma Lea Vermette, who died Jan. 10, 2000.
For 20 years he was an election judge for the 7th District, ending as a chief judge alongside his wife.
Surviving are two sons, Tim-othy M. Vermette of Owings and John Torre of Copeland, Fla.; two daughters, Leanne Vermete of Mira Loma, Calif., and Sylvia Lane of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Eugene Vermette of Dorset; one sister, Evangeline Bardin of Granville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road, Galesville, where services will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be private.
