- Pat Rafferty's notes:
Martin Lowe caught 53 salmon once at the mouth of the Nacimiento River with a pitchfork.
During Prohibition, he had a still at the spring (mission one) up Vineyard Canyon. He would trade salmon for a bottle. Martin would wait until Doc's Dad was hauling grain into San Miguel, would throw his all familiar bed roll onto the wagon and go out to their place for a visit and always slept in the barn.
He worked on the railroad. He could carry a steel rail quite a distance to display
his powers. Also would pull a cultivator — "to learn them a lesson".
One time the Bert Morehouse family had a picnic north of San Miguel on the Nacimiento River. Martin was camped there so Bert parked, told the women to stay in the car and he went to see if Martin was presentable. Martin was diving for salmon. As usual, he was in the nude.
Martin took his sister to a dance. Martin went barefooted, painted his feet with black shoe polish and thoroughly embarassed his sister.
Once when Las Tablas creek flooded, Martin took people across in a two wheel cart.
