Katie Bookless never married and lived alone in Nickerson, Kansas, a small crossroad town near Hutchinson. She had a large loom set up in her home, which she used to make homemade rugs and carpets. She was supported by her Grandfather Bookless for many years. After Estelle Wiley died, "Aunt Katy" came to live with the family to take care of Edward Ross BOOKLESS, her bother, and raise the four children, Olive, Ross, Orville and Wiley. She and her brother (Edward, Katy Barr-Dower's grandfather) visited the BARR'S'S family, when they lived in various locations in California.
