    Leonard Sendel arrived in New York City with his family aboard the passenger ship EMS, registered to the North German Lloyd Line. They traveled on the EMS' maiden voyage and departed Bremen, Germany on 2 Jun 1884, arriving in New York 14 Jun 1884. Leonard was accompanied by his wife Catherine and two children,

    EMS was built by John Elder & Co., in Glasgow, Scotland. The ship had a single-screw with a top speed of 16 knots, four masts, and two funnels. The ship was later renamed LAKE SIMCO in 1901 and was scrapped in 1904.

    Leonhard married Katharine GOEBEL on 22 Jun 1872 in Kaiserlautern, Pfalz, Bavaria. Katharine was born about 1851 in Germany; died on 19 Feb 1935 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. [Group Sheet]
